Jurisdiction over Small Claims


[1] First-level courts shall have jurisdiction over actions for payment of money where the value of the claim does not exceed P200,000 exclusive of interest and costs (The 2016 Revised Rules Of Procedure For Small Claims Cases). [2] The Metropolitan Trial Courts, Municipal Trial Courts in Cities, Municipal Trial Courts, and Municipal Circuit Trial Courts shall apply the Rule for Small Claims Cases in all actions that are purely civil in nature where the claim or relief prayed for by the plaintiff is solely for payment or reimbursement of sum of money. These claims may be:
          (a) For money owed under the contracts of lease, loan, services, sale, or mortgage;
          (b) For damages arising from fault or negligence, quasi-contract, or contract; and
          (c) The enforcement of a barangay amicable settlement or an arbitration award involving a money claim pursuant to Sec. 417 of RA 7160 (LGC).
