Nature of Philippine Courts

[1] Philippine courts are both courts of law and of equity. Hence, both legal and equitable jurisdiction is dispensed with in the same tribunal. (US v. Tamparong, 31 Phil. 321) [2] A court of law decides a case according to the promulgated statute. A court of equity decides a case according to the common precepts of what is right and just without inquiring into the terms of the statutes.
