Student Union reports SUICIDE of State U student NOT allowed to graduate due to "no grade"

The National Union of Students of the Philippines wrote, on Facebook: BREAKING: Student commits suicide after being barred from graduating.

Kenneth Ramos, a Mechanical Engineering student in Don Honorio Ventura Technological State University (DHVTSU) committed suicide after learning that he will not be able to graduate this year.

According to Kenneth's mother, his name was already in the final list of graduating students, but was barred from joining the graduation for having "no grade" in 15-20 units of his program.

Kenneth's case clearly reflects the fascist or repressive nature of our education system. Schools have turned into pressure cookers that severely punish students who do not live up to foreign-backed standards and curriculum.

Schools in our country are far from being learning institutions that cater to the overall well-being of students. Academic and democratic rights of the student body are trampled upon by our fascist educational system, which is upheld by repressive school policies.

The National Union of the Students of the Philippines (NUSP) extends its condolences to the bereaved family members. We are one with them in the pursuit for justice and accountability from the school administration.

We urge the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to not keep its hands off this unfortunate incident. We are dismayed to hear from CHED that investigating the case is too much of a task for the agency. We call on CHED to investigate the incident and hold the DHVTSU administration accountable.
