Roque doubts fishermen's story; to protest vs. China "only if established [by evidence]"

For lawyers like Harry Roque, "if established" means "if proven by evidence." This means that the Duterte adminsitration does not give full trust and confidence in the testimony of these fishermen who have experienced, firsthand, China's abuse of Filipinos on Scarborough Shoal. Roque, by this statement, proves that Duterte's Malacañang has more trust in and love for the Chinese than Filipinos. Oh, and by the way, the government can choose not to take these fishermen's word for it; there is a video to prove it.

The Philippines will file a protest against the reported taking by Chinese coast guard of the catch of Filipino fishermen on Scarborough Shoal if the incident is "established," a spokesman for President Rodrigo Duterte said on Friday.

In a report by GMA News, Chinese coast guard speedboat approached the boats of Filipino fishermen where its news team was also aboard.

The Chinese coast guard personnel could be seen asking for fish from Filipinos and went aboard their vessel and opened containers of their catch. NEWS SOURCE: Roque: Philippines to protest Chinese taking of Filipinos' catch 'if established'; Audrey Morallo ( - June 8, 2018 - 3:24pm; Read more at

A cellphone video taken last May showed Chinese coastguards boarding the fishermen's boat and helping themselves to the fish they caught.

During the filming of the documentary, Egana's crew encountered the same Chinese coast guards in the video. The men approached in a speedboat and asked for fish. Since there wasn't any catch yet, they left empty-handed.
