23% of cases vs. police are rape of minors

The latest study conducted by the Center for Women’s Resources (CWR) found that 56 police officers have been involved in violence against women since President Rodrigo Duterte took office.

The report, which was conducted from July 2016 to October 2018, found that the police had been involved in 33 state-sponsored cases, including catcalling, sexual harassment, physical assault, rape and blackmailing, etc.

Of the cases recorded, 13 involve victims aged 17 or younger. The investigative body also found that almost half of the cases (16) involved rapes, while 7 involved acts of lasciviousness.

According to CWR executive director Jojo Guan, it is appalling to see the authorities become bolder when they commit abuses against women and children, which only reflects the Duterte government's low respect for women's rights. He also said that part of the police involved in abuses came from the same cities or provinces.
