PRRD: Katoliko, mga tarantado; Pope, anak ng pokpok

Caloocan Bishop Pablo Virgilio David called on Filipino Catholics to pray for the country and for President Rodrigo Duterte, who, he said, “is a very sick man.”

He was reacting to the comments made by Duterte during the latter’s visit on All Saints' Day, to Cauayan, Isabela, where he was briefed on the impact of Typhoon Rosita in the province.

"Bakit naman, sa bagay ito, tarantado talaga itong mga Katoliko, puta. Bakit may All Souls' Day tapos may All Saints' Day? Hindi nga natin alam 'yung mga santo, na kung sino mga gago na 'yun, mga lasenggo," Duterte said.

Duterte has referred to the Catholic Church as "the most hypocritical institution", after the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines president Socrates Villegas released a pastoral letter indirectly referring to Duterte as a "morally reprehensible" candidate who has shown "scant regard" for the rights of others and the teachings of the Church, urging Filipino Catholics to not vote for him.

Explosive incoming Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has launched a series of obscenity-filled attacks on the Catholic Church, branding local bishops corrupt "sons of whores" who are to be blamed for the nation's fast-growing population. xxx Duterte last year called Pope Francis a "son of a whore" for causing traffic jams when he visited Manila, a bold tactic in a nation where 80 percent of the population is Catholic.
