Lawyer punched by client after getting 50-year conviction

A man, who was convicted in court in Ohio, USA, on Tuesday punched his lawyer in reaction to his 47-year prison sentence.

David Chilston, 42, was handed down the sentence for setting his apartment complex on fire in April 2017, local media WEWS first reported.

Aside from this, he was slapped with several charges including assaulting his girlfriend and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, as per WKYC.

“I turned to him because I was about to tell him that I will come and meet with him privately to see if there was anything we could do to reduce the sentence,” Chislton’s defense attorney, Aaron Brockler, told WKYC. “[But] before I could even open my mouth I heard a swoosh sound.”

By the time he woke up, he saw officers already on top of his client.

Brockler sustained a broken nose and severe concussion, but said he is now in good spirits and recovering. The attorney added that he was ready to forgive Chilston.
Meanwhile, the Cuyahoga County court and police said they were reviewing their security policy after Brockler noted that Chilston was handcuffed in front instead of at the back.

“What occurred in courtroom 18-C today was unfortunate, and we are thankful that Attorney Aaron Brockler was not more seriously injured,” presiding judge John Russo said. “We wish him the best in a speedy recovery.”
