ORIGINAL TEXT: We, the sovereign Filipino people, imploring the aid of Almighty God, in order to build a just and humane society, and establish a Government that shall embody our ideals and aspirations, promote the common good, conserve and develop our patrimony, and secure to ourselves and our posterity, the blessings of independence and democracy under the rule of law and a regime of truth, justice, freedom, love, equality, and peace, do ordain and promulgate this Constitution.

REPHRASED VERSION: We Filipinos are the supreme ruler of the Philippines. With the help of Almighty God, we write and enact this Constitution to establish a Government that shall exercise our sovereign powers and shall personify and realize our ideals, hopes and ambitions. We hope that this Government build for us a society with justice, humanity and compassion. We hope that this Government promote for us the common good, conserve and develop for us our patrimony. We hope that his Government secure to ourselves and all future Filipino generations the advantages and benefits of independence and democracy. We hope that this Government rule over us and conduct its policies under the restrictions of law because we are society of laws and not of men.
