What are pleadings?

A pleading is a written statement of the respective claims and (or) defenses of the parties submitted to the court for appropriate judgment. What kinds of pleadings are allowed under the Rules of Court? They are the following:

[1] Complaint;
[2] Answer;
[3] Counterclaim;
[4] Cross-claim;
[5] Reply;
[6] Third-party (fourth party, etc.) complaint (Rule 2, Sec. 6); and
[7] Complaint-in-intervention or answer-in-intervention (Rule 19. Sec. 3).
